CastlePierce Timeline
1888
In 1888, William Morgan Castle began printing in his three-room basement in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with two one-color presses and a type case holding only a few fonts of type.
1889
In 1899, Castle installed the first linotype machines in commercial use north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
1900
The company name was changed to Castle Pierce in 1900 when Harry Pierce, Castle’s pressroom supervisor and ace pressman, became a partner. Harry’s son, Elmer (Pierce’s son) William Jr. (Castle’s son), and William Reilly (Castle’s grandson) also joined the team throughout the years, making it a true family business.
1925
During the Great Depression, Castle Pierce stayed in business by securing new work. Castle Pierce printed the Big Ten yearbooks during this time.
1949
In 1949, Castle Pierce operated the first commercial two-color press in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin.
1953
Castle Pierce entered the offset printing arena in 1953.
1962
In 1962, Castle Pierce built a modern, state-of-the-art building in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, that the company still occupies today.
1963
Elmer Pierce passed away in 1963. Elmer’s death marked the end of Pierce’s involvement in the operational side of the business.
1974
Castle Pierce surpasses the regional competition with the addition of a four-color press to the business.
1982
The Castle family purchased the final company holdings from the Pierce family in 1982. The name Castle Pierce was left unchanged to honor the Castle and Pierce family collaboration in 1900.
1988
Castle Pierce celebrates its 100th anniversary and continues to operate under the management of the fourth generation of the Castle family.
1998
The company marks its 110th anniversary with the completion of a $3.5 million expansion project.
2000
Technology continues to advance, and so did Castle Pierce. In 2000, the business shifted away from commercial printing and changed its primary focus to packaging.
2013
Castle Pierce celebrated its 125th year of operation in 2013. The fifth generation of Castles assumed daily management of the business.
2016
In 2016, Castle Pierce completed a $4.5 million expansion project, continuing to grow in the field of narrow web flexible packaging.
2021
Castle Pierce received the 2021 Sustained Excellence Award presented by the Oshkosh Area United Way.
2022
Castle Pierce continues to expand with the installation of a Komori Lithrone GX40 Advance 8 Color UV press in 2022.
